Ané Resurfacing Liquid Exfoliant

Brighten | Resurface | Refine

Ané Resurfacing Tri-Acid Toner is a powerful, yet gentle leave-on liquid exfoliant designed to brighten, resurface and refine texture and even skin tone.

A feather-light, non-drying acid toner and liquid exfoliant for a visibly brighter, softer and smoother complexion and skin feel.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) and Betaine Salicylate (BHA) gently loosen and slough away dead skin cells, support cellular turnover and help prevent congestion.

Brightening Tranexamic Acid works alongside the anti-inflammatory Amino Acid sequence of Tetrapeptide-30 to help inhibit the pigmentation process and diminish the appearance of dark spots and imperfections for a more even skin tone.

Skin identical, moisturising Glycerine and Sodium PCA boost hydration and skin barrier protection while our unique, antioxidant rich Adaptogen Plant Complex soothes, protects and nourishes for an overall brighter, smoother and softer complexion and texture.

Recommended for: Discoloured, dull, stressed, congested and tired skin with uneven tone and texture.  Gentle on all skin types.

pH 3.7-3.9

    • Helps minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

    • Reduce the appearance of discolouration and hyperpigmentation

    • Supports cellular turnover to reveal brighter, more uniform skin tone.

    • Anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative protection against free radical damage.

    • Non-drying formulation supports healthy barrier function and prevents dryness and tightness.

    • Support disruption of the chemical pathways that cause hyperpigmentation through inhibition of tyrosinase and melanin transfer.

    • Consistent gentle exfoliation prevents the build-up of dead skin that may cause breakouts, dullness and discolouration.

    • Skin appears overall brighter with a more balanced and uniform tone for a revitalised, refreshed and re-energised complexion.
    • Use between 1-4 times a week as the first step after cleansing, before serum/moisturising. Saturate a cotton wool pad and gently apply it all over the face and décolletage. Avoid the eye area.

Can be used am/pm. If used am, always follow with sun protection. See Sunburn Alert below.

Caution: A patch test before regular use is advised. Increase use slowly if new to acid exfoliation to give the skin time to adjust. Avoid direct contact with the eyes. External use only. Keep out of reach of children. Reduce or stop use if irritation occurs.

Sunburn Alert: This product contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards.

Storage: Store in a cool, dark place. Avoid direct sunlight

  • How to use / layer with other products?

    • Apply first to cleansed, dry skin before any other products so that the acid toner can get to work directly on your skin.

    • Once applied try to leave it a few minutes and then you can apply a mist and/or serum and moisturiser and/or face oil. You don’t need several steps if you prefer to keep it simple and just add your preferred moisturiser - this is what I do most of the time too as I prefer to limit the active products in my routine.
    • If you use it in the morning always make sure to apply board spectrum sunscreen.

    • Do not use in the same routine as other Retinoid products, especially prescription Retinoids.

    • Do not use in the same routine as another exfoliant or a physical scrub.
    • Start slow and build up over time depending on how your skin responds.

How often should I use it?

Recommended usage is between 1-4 times a week, and the right level of usage for you personally will depend on different factors, ie. your skin type and concerns, how your skin is tolerating and responding to the product, what the rest of your routine looks like in terms of the time you like to spend as well as the products you use already.

I don’t advocate using an acid toner daily - even a gentle one like the Ané Tri-Acid Toner, but it’s really up to you and how you feel your skin responds. What I’ve learnt is that it’s easy to underestimate and overdo exfoliating without even realising it sometimes.

    How long does it last?

This will depend entirely on how often you use it, and how much product you use at a time. With 1-2 times a week, it could last up to 6 months or more.

Do I need to rinse it off?

No, this is a leave-on product.

I’m new to acids - where do I start?

Acid toners are a great way to support your skin’s cellular turnover and address dullness, discolouration and fine lines and wrinkles - but we also always want to make sure not to compromise or cause harm to our skin barrier.

This kind of product is inherently designed to disturb your skin barrier (acid mantle) slightly so it can loosen the bonds between dead skin cells and support the exfoliation process, but it shouldn’t compromise your skin barrier and leave your skin feeling dry and tight in the process.

Just start very slow on a few areas on your face, ie. forehead, nose and chin. Wait a few days and apply it to your whole face. You can then wait another few days to see how your skin responds and work out what kind of routine will work for you. I use it 3-4 times a week now.

A few things to remember before starting:
    - do not use in the same routine as other Retinoid products, especially prescription Retinoids.
    - do not use it in the same routine as another exfoliant or a physical scrub.
    - start slow and build up over time depending on how your skin responds
    - don’t overdo it

Can I use it in the morning or only at night?

This is an ideal night-time product as the AHAs in it can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, but also because it’s a great opportunity for the product to do what it’s been formulated to do in terms of exfoliation and supporting cellular turnover - without other layers of product, makeup, sunscreen and pollutants. Plus you’ll wake up with beautifully soft skin the next day. Saying all that - I sometimes love using it in the morning under my makeup as I find it makes my skin lovely and smooth before applying foundation. As long as you’re wearing your board spectrum sunscreen and protect your skin however you can during the day it is possible to use it during the day as well. The more you use it the more you will find what works best for you - just listen to your skin.

Can I use my hands to apply it?

We advise applying the product with a cotton wool pad, but I know some testers and customers also prefer just using their hands to apply. It is re

    What does it smell like?

A non-descript smell. No synthetic or natural/essential oil fragrance is added.

Will it dry out my skin?

We’ve specifically formulated this product with skin-identical hydrators Glycerine and Sodium PCA, as well as our sooting Adaptogen Plant Complex to avoid the skin becoming dry or flaky as a result of using the acid toner.

    Does it sting?

It’s been formulated to be gentle, hydrating and supportive to the skin, but you may experience a slight tingle - especially if it’s the first time you’re using an acid product. If you do experience any tingling it should only be gentle and should settle as your skin gets used to an acid product. The key is to start slow and build up slowly, don’t be tempted to overdo it.

A liquid exfoliant like this is designed to have a lower pH than other skincare products with the purpose of slightly disturbing the acid mantle that is part of your skin barrier - this is the mechanism of exfoliation that will loosen and slough away dead skin cells and support cellular turnover that will reveal brighter, more even-toned skin.

Saying all of this - if your skin keeps stinging, becomes red, itchy and or inflamed it may be that the product is just not compatible with your skin and it will be best to discontinue use completely.

What shall I not use it with?

Do not use it with any other (exfoliating acid) type product or a facial scrub in your routine. Also avoid using any kind of Retinoid, especially prescription Retinoids in your routine.
